Japan 20-somethings have over 2-million-yen gap between real, ideal annual pay: survey

The gap between ideal annual income and reality for full-time employees in their 20s in Japan exceeded 2 million yen (about $12,700), a survey by an employment info website operator revealed. The November 2023 online survey by Tokyo-based Mynavi Corp. heard from 585 full-time workers in their 20s. When asked for their ideal annual income, the average was 5,897,000 yen (roughly $37,500), while the average current annual income was 3,649,000 yen (about $23,200) -- a gap of 2,248,000 yen (approx. $14,300).
