According to preliminary results from the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), retail companies in Germany had a calendar and seasonally adjusted real (price-adjusted) sales of 1.2% and a nominal (not price-adjusted) sales of 1.4% less in April 2024 than in March 2024. Compared to the same month last year, April 2023, retail recorded a real sales decline of 0.6% and a nominal sales increase of 1.0%. In April 2024, sales in the food retail sector fell by 3.7% in real terms and by 3.4% in nominal terms compared to the previous month, adjusted for calendar and season effects.
