Automated trading vs manual trading — Dear Chris (and anyone willing to participate, of course), First of all, thanks a lot for your wonderful thread. I am learning a lot and am still at the very beginning of the learning process, I am afraid. ...

I do not know how the 'star-thing' works, but if I can do anything to contribute to get this thread five stars, consider me as well. Thanks.

Thanks a lot, CW — CW, I am a newbie and am going through the entire thread from the very beginning: since I "just" discovered forexfactory -and consequently your thread- a couple of months ago or so. First 100 pages gone, for now. I am ...

Reply from Dukascopy representative? — Still no reply from Dukascopy representative? Am I the only one interested in having those answers? Happy trading to all.

Thanks, Alex_b — Alex_b, thanks a lot for your kind reply. I have started reading a part of the forum and trying to understand the first examples (though they seem pretty advanced, for me). I will try my best to figure out how it works (at ...

JForex, anyone? — Do you have any advices on how to learn to backtest strategies using JForex? If I understand well, it should be possible to go live with an automatic algorithm, too; correct? Anyhow, I have a decent background in C#, Matlab ...

How safe are Swiss banks? — I have found this: url "In 2004, the current Swiss Banking Law governing deposit protection was introduced." Explained in detail here : url I think the latter is truly informative (although a bit long). This ...

Way to go! — Thanks, seawinde. Now it has also been posted on the conpany's website, here: url news section it is said: "Dukascopy (Suisse) SA has given birth to Dukascopy Bank SA and expresses its immense gratitude to all its employees, ...

JD, I think they still have to update their website. Nevertheless, if you go to url and insert their number (i.e.: 660-1823004-9) you will notice their name has been changed into: Dukascopy Bank SA. Few days ago it was still Dukascopy SUISSE SA.

Great news indeed — And today my account has been activated. As promised, my first impression. First live trade: zero slippage on eur/usd; spread (on the market) 1-1.5 pips. By the way I bought a micro lot ($1k), just for testing and the ...

Thanks a lot for the insight, just_ha. Terrible news I would say. Did he imply that they already know that Dukascopy has failed to obtain the license? Thanks for the information.
- actarus replied Jun 11, 2010
nubcake, thanks for the insight. I see what you meant, but what I meant referring to different brokers is that there is a minimum tradable lot, for the majority of them. In my case this minimum is equal to my actual budget: therefore I can not ...

Exactly what I meant. This is extremely important to me. In fact even on the demo account I am simulating my 'moves', I get nervous if I open too large positions or if I am willing to suffer huge losses. That is me, of course; but it is something I ...

Mr J, I see what you are saying and I do not doubt it works for you. At the moment for me it is too tough. I could not stand hug profits or losses: I would concentrate on them. I am conscious I have so much to learn, but I noticed I easily ...

nubcake, I am afraid I do not follow you. Disregarding the margin part, the only way I am aware of zero risk is if your position goes to zero (which can not since it is a discrete number and >1,000 base currency for the majority of the brokers). At ...

nubcake, I totally respect others' opinion and I wish I can be a profitable trader myself; nevertheless, I think there is still room for my opinion. If I do not agree with someone or I believe that the risk involved is too high, no matter what your ...

nanningbob, I truly believe it is true; but I also believe the possibility that I go bankrupted before the reversal is not zero. Trendchaser, thanks for the explanation; indeed I think it is not easy and counter-intuitive, but I am following what ...
- actarus replied Jun 10, 2010
trend_chaser, if you put it that way, it makes sense to me to wait for the margin call (in the very worst case) or to close a position well in advance. I am not that disciplined, probably. I could not do that; but I think I see what you are saying.
- actarus replied Jun 10, 2010
Sorry but I can not agree. It is really likely you are much more skilled than I am (and I mean it), also because I do not think I am skilled at all; still, I do not think it is a skill to have 600 pips down, even if you are aiming for thousands up. ...
