I heard a similar rumor yesterday! There's a possibility that "pop" sound I heard driving my car was a nuclear bomb exploding. And we all know nuclear weapons are stored underground.

Thanks so much! It must take a lot of patience to deal with so many newbies in a 1500+ page thread I got majorly lucky on some swings. I stopped my long position last night, lost 33% of my micro account, but due to hitting a couple shorts and even a ...

From a previously posted article: What does "calming down" the market mean? Does it meant he BoJ is trying to decrease volatility by adding money slowly? Or does it mean they want to cause huge sudden shifts in certain directions? Edit: Realjumper, ...

What time frame are you thinking about for that stop loss? We obviously aren't talking about long-term trades with only 0.25 yen buffer. I am new and still don't know the proper ratio for setting stop loss.

Why does bad news about Japan keep making the dollar weaker and the yen stronger? I know Japan is selling off their dollars to cause some of these effects, but is that really causing this enormous phenomenon?

Sounds like some shady stuff going on at your broker. Can somebody explain to me what happened? I see nothing on the news to cause a drop from 80 to 77...... Sidney market just opened, but Tokyo still doesn't open for another 90 minutes, even!

Holy cow. I sold my long positions as the yen clearly broke 81, and put in some shorts. I just more than doubled my working equity... margins are double-edged sword, and sometimes you get the right side of things!

I don't use the 5m chart on USD/JPY... too volatile on that time frame, and hard to pick out trends. I use 15m as my lowest.

My thoughts? I'm still long from the other day, at 81.50-ish! Somebody needs to weaken the yen fast

Volatility of the USD/JPY, considering the enormous impact of the natural disasters? Suspiciously low. Uncertainy regarding future movements of USD/JPY? High.

Perhaps BoJ is manipulating it. They apparently won't say whether they've been doing so thus far. But now we're just speculating... If I was BoJ, I would want to keep people investing, and if there are huge currency fluctuations that would deter ...

It's a lot more than that. Here's a new article from Bloomberg this morning. There may be something to this "strengthening yen" trend even in the face of the natural disasters.
