Its called a head fake. It occurs to suck in the traders that use something similiar to the Big Ben trading strategy. You can play it if you are quick to reverse your position.

Do you carry the VWAP price forward from the previous session? IE. London VWAP in to US session? Overlap the VWAP and Volume at price for each session, you might see some interesting patterns.

Long wicks on the M15 at either end of the range. GU up UJ down, GJ stuck in the middle. No direction till the range forms a wedge and is broken.

Similiar, but vwma is a moving average, it is volume weighted average depicted as a period MA.

Volume at particular prices was quite high, almost as much as US session. You are looking at broker volume, unless the broker uses something like esignal for volumes chances are it is only broker platform volume. Chart of the last 24hrs, you can see ...

Those hammers on DOW, GY and GU, were too convienient. News release at the end of trading will pull the market up in the last half hour, perhaps this impulsive move north is to sucker punch the bulls over the weekend.
